This residence near Zion National Park overlooks an adjacent dry river wash. The design acknowledges our findings of (4) key desert components.

Earth: A lower level is dug into the earth using the areas most distinguishing feature as its main building component.

Sky: Desert form is always a reaction to the Sky. Harsh during the day, star spattered at night. The building edits how and in what ways light enters the space.

Water: The effects of water are seen everywhere in the topography. Its inclusion should respect how the desert collects water.

Fragility: One step can scar the desert floor for years. The building is lifted above grade and construction takes place within the footprint.
