Where the Chugach mountain range evolves into a ravine carved by the descent of melted snow, we find a threshold. It is a site at pause between mountain and valley. This residence carves into sloping earth while projecting toward spectacular distant vistas of earth, water, and sky. The spaces are a series of transitions and thresholds reminiscent of the site. Thresholds in section and plan define edges where openness transitions to closeness and the site’s immediate components become apparent. Solitude and sharing are composed within the language of architecture and landscape.
