The Owners of this 1940’s era duplex requested their building be changed into a single-family residence for themselves and their two young children. They selected this site because of its large backyard and friendly neighborhood community.

This building is one of 20 duplexes that at one time were built exactly the same within a 2-block area. The “monopoly hotel” shape and adjacent buildings were too important to ignore. Rather than change the envelope, the existing spaces were respected, and new functions were shown as new. The conversion opens the structure on the ground level and reinforces the simple shape of the home with a new skin.
